You Are Not a Victim of the Economy: Encouragement for Christian Business Owners in Tough Times

It’s no secret—the Canadian economy has been throwing curveballs lately. Recession talk, high interest rates, layoffs, and rising costs dominate the headlines. For Christian business owners, it can feel like standing in a storm, watching the winds of uncertainty blow away our peace, our confidence, and sometimes, even our income.

But here’s a truth you need to hear today:

You are not a victim of statistics.

An old friend once told me about his kids wanting to move back to their small hometown.

His response? "But there just aren't any jobs!"

I smiled and said, "How many jobs do they need?"

One. Just one.

The point? We don't need the whole economy to improve for God to bless our work. We serve a God who is not bound by economic forecasts, inflation rates, or job market stats.

God Provides—Even in a Famine

The Bible is full of examples where God provided for His people in the middle of scarcity. These stories aren't just for Sunday School—they're meant to build your faith right now.

  • Elijah was fed by ravens and later sustained by a widow whose jar of oil never ran dry (1 Kings 17)

  • Joseph was promoted during a crisis, using wisdom and vision to not only survive a famine but bless nations (Genesis 41)

  • Jesus fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish—and there were leftovers (John 6)

In every case, God didn’t wait for conditions to improve. He made provision in the middle of the mess.

Your Business Is in Kingdom Hands

The world says, “Look at the numbers. Be realistic.” But faith says, “God gave me this business. He called me to this work. He is my Provider.”

Philippians 4:19 reminds us:“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

That’s not just enough—that’s abundance.

You Might Be Blessed to Be a Blessing

In fact, in times like these, God often blesses His people so they can bless others.

Maybe you’re not just going to make it through—maybe God wants you to thrive, so you can help others who are struggling.

2 Corinthians 9:8 says:“God is able to bless you abundantly… so that you will abound in every good work.”

What if this is your moment to shine—not shrink back?

Encouragement for Today

If you’re a Christian entrepreneur feeling discouraged:

  • Keep showing up.

  • Keep honouring God with your work.

  • Keep praying and trusting that He sees you, He knows what you need, and He will not forsake you.

You’re not a victim of a weak economy—you’re a child of the King. And your business? It’s in His capable hands.

Need Prayer or Encouragement?

You’re not alone. Reach out to a fellow believer. Find community. Let’s walk through this together in faith—not fear.
